1. What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy explains how HomeWalk collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our website and web app (the "Service").

HomeWalk helps homebuyers capture photos/videos during a walkthrough and generates an AI-assisted report with potential observations and questions to ask a licensed inspector or seller.

2. Notice at Collection (Quick Summary)

When you use HomeWalk, we collect certain categories of personal information and use them for specific purposes (like account access, generating your report, and sending report emails). We describe those categories and purposes below. California requires this kind of "notice at collection."

3. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide

  • Account info (via Google sign-in): name, email address, and basic profile identifiers.
  • Walkthrough inputs: property address (optional), ZIP code, and any notes you type.
  • Media you upload: photos (and potentially videos) you capture or upload for analysis.
  • Preferences: email notification and marketing-email toggles.

B. Information Collected Automatically

  • Device and usage data: IP address, device/browser type, pages/screens viewed, timestamps, and basic diagnostic logs.
  • Cookies and similar tech: used for login/session management, security, and core app functionality.

C. Payments

If you purchase report credits, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number. Stripe may collect and process payment information under its own policies.

D. Inspector Directory (Optional Feature)

If you use the inspector finder, we may fetch public business info (like rating) using services such as the Google Places API.

4. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide the Service: create your account, maintain your session, and save your reports.
  • Generate your report: process your uploaded media and produce AI-assisted findings and summaries.
  • Send emails you request: report-ready notifications and "email me my report" messages (transactional).
  • Process payments: verify credit entitlements and usage limits, handle payment status (via Stripe webhooks).
  • Improve reliability and safety: debug issues, prevent abuse/fraud, and secure the platform (for example, by monitoring logs and rate-limiting).
  • Communicate product updates (only if you opt in): tips and marketing emails.

We try to follow data minimization and purpose limitation principles: collecting data that's reasonably necessary for the features you're using.

5. AI Processing and Your Media

HomeWalk sends your uploaded media (and limited related context like "kitchen sink" or "exterior roofline" prompts) to AI services to generate your report.

Important:

Uploaded images can sometimes contain sensitive details (faces, family photos on walls, mail with addresses, etc.). You control what you upload.

If we use the OpenAI API for analysis:

  • By default, OpenAI states that API inputs/outputs are not used to train or improve OpenAI models unless an organization explicitly opts in.
  • At this time, we have opted out to provide training data and will provide notice if this policy changes.

6. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We share information only as needed to run the Service, including with:

  • Hosting and infrastructure (example: Vercel)
  • Auth, database, and file storage (example: Supabase)
  • Background job processing (example: Inngest)
  • Email delivery (example: Resend)
  • Payments (example: Stripe)
  • AI processing providers (example: OpenAI API)
  • Public data providers for inspector listings (example: Google Places API)

We may also share information:

  • For legal and safety reasons: to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect rights, safety, and security.
  • Business transfers: if we're involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets (we'll require appropriate protections).

7. Your Choices and Controls

  • Marketing emails: off by default; you can opt in/out anytime in Settings.
  • Account and report access: you can view your saved reports in the app.
  • Deletion: you can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us (see "Contact" below). We may retain limited records as required for legal, tax, fraud prevention, or security purposes.

8. Privacy Rights (U.S. State Laws)

Depending on where you live, you may have rights such as:

  • Access to personal data
  • Correction
  • Deletion
  • Data portability
  • Opt-out of certain processing (for example, targeted advertising in some states)

We provide a reasonably accessible way to submit requests and will respond within timelines required by applicable law.

We may ask you to verify your identity before fulfilling requests.

9. Cookies and Analytics

We use essential cookies for authentication, security, and core app functions (for example, keeping you logged in).

If we add analytics/advertising cookies later, we will update this section and, where required, provide consent controls.

10. Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed to:

  • Provide the Service (including giving you continued access to reports you saved),
  • Meet legal obligations,
  • Resolve disputes,
  • And maintain security and abuse prevention.

You can request deletion (see Section 7). We may retain limited information where required or justified for legitimate business purposes (for example, fraud prevention and security logging).

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect data. See our Security Policy below for more detail. (No system is 100% secure.)

12. Children's Privacy

HomeWalk is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will post an updated effective date and may notify you in-app or by email.
